The secret to knowing which earrings suit you is to calculate what facial type you have. Don't worry! It is actualy pretty simple and specifically depends on the basic shape of your face, so take a look in the mirror and check down the list describing the different types best describes your own face. If you don't find it easy to work out which one you are, why not look on Google images for the different types - "heart shaped face", "square face", etc. You'll be relieved to see that many beautiful celebrities fall into each category so whichever one you are, you know you can look great!
Now, first off: a heart shaped face has a relatively broad forehead and cheekbones, narrowing to a pointed chin. Take a look at celebrity Reece Witherspoon for a great example of a heart shaped face. Help a heart shape by adding some width at the bottom of your face, so shun thin, narrow, dangly earrings or simple stud type earrings. Instead, choose bigger, hanging earrings with teardrop or round shapes.
Nina Breddal produces superb teardrop earrings that would do you proud, for example.
A square face (not literally exactly square, of course, that would just look weird!) is an impression given by the overall shape of the face whereby it appears roughly as wide as it is long and with very little narrowing at the jaw and the forehead. Sandra Bullock is a famous square face. In this case, avoid small earrings such as stud type earrings, as they won't complement your features well. The type of earrings that are most effective will soften the overall look of your face by adding swirls and round shapes.
Claudia Bradby is a designer with rounded and heart shaped silver earrings, with gorgeous pearl details, that will soften your look really well.
An oval face appears widest at the cheekbones, gently tapering down to the jaw and up to the top of the head. Megan Fox is a fairly typical oval faced person. If you are an oval faced person, congratulations! You can wear pretty much anything you like, though you should make sure you avoid very long, thin earrings in case it makes your face look too long.
Claudia Bradby has designed stunning clustered earrings which would be ideal for an oval face.
If you have a round face, such as Catherine Zeta Jones or Cameron Diaz, you will benefit from earrings that are long and also have a little angularity to them, which has the effect of elongating your jaw and breaking up the roundness, too.
An oblong face is predominantly narrower and longer in proportions. Sarah Jessica Parker from Sex In The City has a very pronounced oblong face. Obviously, long and narrow earrings are a no go - so look out for shorter earrings styles that will accentuate width.
So what are you waiting for? Go and try it, now!
